On the 27th and 28th of November 2018, the trade fair for the painting trade “National Painting and Decorating Show 2018” took place in Coventry, Great Britain. We visited the fair to get an overview of the developments and trends in the English market and present you the first impression and overview of the fair with the theme “spray technology”.
The topic of spray technology was clearly one of the biggest trends at the fair. In addition to the stands of the major manufacturers Wagner and Graco, this theme was present at many other exhibitor stands. Thus, many stands of paint manufacturers, individual Airless equipment could be found as an exhibition object. Our partner and training provider PaintTech was also present with a booth at the fair. In addition, Ian Crump, the managing director of PaintTech, took over the organization of a special area at the trade fair, the SprayZone.
SprayZone – try it out, test it and try it on the subject of paint spraying technology
The SprayZone was all about spray technology with the user being in the forefront. This means you could try different spraying techniques and sprayer devices. Various paint sprayers were available from Airless to Airmix to HVLP. Experts were on site to answer questions, talk shop and exchange experiences. The SprayZone was a great idea from exhibition management and a good complement to the exhibition stands of the manufacturers.
The booth was very well visited on both days of the fair, a special highlight was the spray competition, where visitors could coat small cabinet doors and was rated for quality and speed.
Booth of the manufacturer Wagner
The manufacturer Wagner was of course represented with a large booth. Presented were various home and entry-level models from the ControlPro series, the XVLP models 3500 and 5000, as well as the Wagner SF 23 Plus and the HeavyCoat 750. In addition, sprayers from the ProSpray series such as the PS 3.20 and PS3.21 were presented.
Wagner relies on two trends in the English market, plaster is currently a big topic. However, in the UK market, there is the problem of power supply to larger sprayers. In addition, smaller sprayers of the PS series or the ControlPro series are offered for beginners. There is a lot going on here in the English market.
Graco at the fair in Coventry
Graco also had a large booth at the show. With the models Graco T-Max 657, the Graco Mark V and the APX, the blue manufacturer is also counting on the plaster trend in Great Britain. Larger models such as the Graco Mark VII or Mark X were not on the show, as the English power grid for these models is under-performance. But even low-pressure systems such as the Graco TurboForce II FinishPro HVLP ProContractor 9.5 or the battery-powered Graco Ultra and UltraMax Airless could be tested.
In addition to the Graco FinishPro II 395 PC Airmix equipped with G40 pistol, the Graco UltraMax II 695 and the T-Max 657 were ready for trade show visitors. Brand new models were not presented at this show by either Wagner or Graco. However, Graco let it be seen, that novelties for the fair color, extension & facade are planned in March 2019 in Cologne.
PaintTech – training in spray technology in England and Ireland
The PaintTech Academy offers training in all aspects of spray technology in four locations in England and Ireland. At the show, the entire team was on the booth of PaintTech and the SprayZone on site to answer all questions from interested seminar participants and students. It was nice to see many former students drop by the booth, sharing their impressions and advancements after attending a PaintTech class.
Feedback from past students is overwhelmingly high and it seems that a superior painting skillset is achieved working with Ian and his team.
Chris Berry, better known as Idaho Painter, was also active at various booths. He spent a lot of time in the SprayZone to chat with painters about spraying technology and equipment and to exchange ideas. Among other things, he had a lance with him, which can be taken off to a height of 3.80 m and used for spraying with Airless equipment. He also had a double-headed spray lance, which attracted attention. In the article Two-headed spray lance for Airless paint spraying we got a first impression of the lance. An extensive test will follow shortly.
The Idaho Painter is a much loved painting hero and family man. We admire the honest and informative YouTube videos he brings out on his YouTube Channel Paint Life TV.
