We have just received a customer enquiry about spraying silicone paint on the façade.
A plastered facade surface is to be sprayed. But which spraying device should be used? What output should the airless device deliver? Which nozzles should be used to spray silicone resin paint?
In short: Which airless sprayer is suitable for the optimal application of silicone paint?
In the following blog post, we will tell you more about these topics.
But first a look at the customer’s request in detail:
Hello, we need to paint the thermal insulation plaster. It is an area of 600m². Silicone paint is to be used and primed beforehand. Please let me know which airless sprayer you could recommend.
Examples of airless sprayable silicone paints for a facade
Here are some examples of sprayable silicone paints in Germany.
As a rule, silicone resin paints can be sprayed well. Exceptions are materials with added algicides or fugicides, i.e. agents against plizbefall or algae formation on the façade.
To protect health and the environment, these paints should not be sprayed.
In case of doubt, information on composition and sprayability can be found in the Technical Data Sheet for each paint.

- Südwest Silicone Therm
- Caparol AmphiSilane / Caparol Muresko
- Brillux Silicone Facade Paint 918

What performance values should an airless sprayer for silicone resin facade paint have?
Most silicone resin facade paints are sprayed with nozzle bores between 0.021″ and 0.027″, for example 523 or 525 nozzles.
In order to supply these nozzles with sufficient paint, the sprayer should have about three litres of delivery capacity per minute.
But you can also use a little more. Below we have summarised a suitable sprayer from Graco, Wagner and FARBMAX for the application of silicone paint.
The customer’s request also included the application of primer.
Since primer is much thinner than silicone resin paint, primer can be applied without problems with the airless device selected for silicone resin paint. Only the nozzle should be adapted to the primer.
More power when it goes up
If you want to spray larger houses and their facades over several floors, it is advisable to plan for a little more power.
This way, the paint sprayer can be positioned in front of the façade, the spray hose supplies the gun with paint and you can comfortably apply paint even on higher floors.
Advantage: You don’t have to carry the paint buckets up the scaffolding because the sprayer does the work and pumps the paint upwards.
The right airless nozzle and accessories for silicone paint on the façade
As already mentioned, most silicone resin paints are processed with 0.023 or 0.025 airless spray tips (e.g. 523 or 525), with exceptions also somewhat smaller or larger.
In case of doubt, it is worth taking a look at the technical data sheet of the respective paint to get more precise information on the optimal nozzle selection.
Hose – If you want to spray particularly high facades or save moving the sprayer, it is recommended to extend the spray hose from the standard length of 15m to 30m. To do this, a 15 m hose is extended by connecting it to the existing hose. If the sprayer has sufficient power, the working radius can even be extended to 45 m or more.
Extensions – In order to maintain the optimum spraying distance between the nozzle and the facade surface, a spray lance can be used. This lance is simply screwed between the gun and the nozzle holder in a few simple steps. When working from scaffolding, a 25 cm extension usually proves to be quite useful.
Airless roller – When working on the façade, paint mist formation during spraying can become a problem due to wind or closely parked cars. The correct handling and optimal adjustment and operation of the spraying technique can help to greatly reduce and control the formation of paint mist. When spraying facades, the use of airless roller systems can also help to greatly reduce or completely avoid paint mist. Graco offers the Graco JetRoller and Wagner the InlineRoller IR 100.
Which airless paint sprayers are suitable for applying silicone resin facade paint?
Here is a small selection of sprayers suitable for applying silicone resin paint, the FARBMAX Airless M10, the Graco Ultra Max II 695 Standard and the Wagner SuperFinish SF 33.
FARBMAX Airless M10 – the cost-effective entry-level model
The FARBMAX Airless M10 is a simple and robust diaphragm pump with decent performance.
The airless unit does without electronic bells and whistles and offers a very good price-performance ratio.
This makes the sprayer particularly interesting for users who do not work with it on a weekly basis, as the favourable entry-level price promises faster profitability.
Graco UltraMax II 695 Standard
The Graco UltraMax II 695 Standard is an electric piston pump for regular professional use.
In contrast to the FARBMAX entry-level model, the Graco 695 is at the upper end of the quality scale and has been developed for regular use in the painting and craft industry.
For users who want to use particularly long hoses or want a little more power reserve, the Graco Ultra Max II 795 Standard is also an option.
Both models are also available in the ProContractor version with hose reel, digital display and other additional functions.
Wagner SuperFinish SF 33
Like the Graco models mentioned, the Wagner SF 33 is at the upper end of the quality level.
With a delivery rate of 4.3 l/min, the powerful diaphragm pump offers everything you need to apply high-quality facade paint.
All these sprayers are delivered ready to use for processing silicone resin paint.
We coordinate details such as the nozzles with our customers according to requirements, project and colour and equip the desired airless unit accordingly.
