At the National Painting and Decorating Show in Coventry, England, one of the largest painting fairs worldwide, we have discovered a two-headed extension for airless paint sprayers. We were behind the stand of PaintTech when Chris Berry (also known as the Idaho Painter) showed the two-headed lance.
What are the advantages of a two-headed extension?
We have not yet done a thorough test of the two-headed extension personally, but we will soon, that’s for sure! The first impression is that this extension could have the following advantages:
- higher surface performance
- faster coverage on large areas
- good overlap
- less overspray
What are the disadvantages?
A disadvantage could be the sheer weight, since the double extension is of course slightly heavier than a conventional paint spray lance of the same length. The first impression was that the lance is quite comfortable and lighter than expected.
Sometimes extentions can have spitting effects, especially long lances, when the pressure drops. In the blog post “Prevent Spit Effects and Splashes with Airless – Anti-Spit Valves”, we discussed exactly this topic. This effect was also evident with this double-headed Airless lance. But with the right working technique you can get a good grip on the problem.
Certainly this extentions would not be suitable for all sort of projects, but for larger ones, the double-headed lance could be an interesting improvement. You’ll read on it again after we will have completed our own test.
